One of the beautiful things about being human, is our perception of life and the lessons we learn from our experiences. We are vastly different, yet certain life events can inspire or compel us towards other paths. Only when we share with others can we gain a greater understanding of life. It is beautiful, messy, and a journey that we have to take.
In We Stood Upon Stars by Roger W. Thompson, those life experiences are shared within the contexts of his adventures in the great outdoors. Whether he is surfing in Ventura or recounting camping trips with kids where he realized an important facet of his identity, his story is enjoyable. It is a simple read and the journies he has had are fun to read about. Every chapter covers a different journey and begins with a handrawn map introducing us to the place. Although, in a few of the chapters I was unsure of the message he was trying to convey and felt it to be lacking.
Overall, when his message is clear, it gives us pause to think about how it might relate to our own lives. An enjoyable read if you want to gain a different perspective.
