Back in the beginning of winter my brother and I planted a bunch of broccoli. We eat so much of it that we figured it was a good idea. The weather conditions we were told were good. And in California they generally are. The broccoli was doing great. We were excited when the first floret appeared and then heads started to form. Then all of a sudden, BOOM. Random 90 degree winter heat wave and the broccoli turned into a bouquet of flowers. Kind of metaphorical for life. You think one thing is happening and then, BOOM, you end up somewhere else. Happily both are fine. I would have liked to eat fresh grown broccoli, but the flowers are beautiful and make the yard look nice.
