Deadlines and Procrastination

A poem response that was inspired by the daily post’s prompt.

What’s your next, most pressing deadline? Are you excited, stressed, or ambivalent about it? What’s the first thing you’d like to do once you’re done with it?

The sound of the clock

ticking down the minutes

Tick Tock Tick Tock

Procrastination at its finest

When there is a deadline to meet.

The time space continuum

Shatters as the final seconds approach

Never do we work harder

A moment before we have to.

I had a deadline. It was December 15th. Yet the work was not done. I was excited, ambivalent, and stressed about it. All three emotions wrapped into a ball of energy that led me to want to do everything but the one thing I needed to do most. Doesn’t it always? Needless to say it was completed, but at the very last moment.
